Well to be frank I was not highly impressed by what Bill Gates presented in CES 2008, nothing new that we haven’t seen before or very exciting was announced, and BTW this was Bill Gates last keynotes at his CES as he is retiring in July 2008.
What was aired in the middle was this funny spoof “Bill Gates last day at Microsoft”

Just last week I heard news that TRAI was going to bump the minimum speed for broadband from 256kpbs to 2Mbps, I was overjoyed but I don’t think so it’s going to happen, TRAI is now justifying that 256kpbs is an acceptable speed to define broadband in India.
According to TRAI even in US the FFC defines speeds in excess of 200kbps as broadband.
In 2008 Look forward to get broadband via new mediums like DTH, 3G, Wifi and WiMAX. Currently most of the broadband connections in India are via DSL then comes cable, here is an excellent report (PDF Format) by TRAI on recommendations on Growth of broadband in India.

| Well it seems the censorship board of India and the I&B ministry is planning to add it’s clutches to the Video Gaming Industry…… Well this so called gaming industry is already in an nascent stage in India, we already don’t get many game titles in India because many popular publishers just don’t want to come to India coz they say we don’t have numbers. I just don’t know how this new move of silly censorship will this help this industry.My argument is that almost all the games are already rated by ESRB internationally since 1994 a non-profit organization and now they would have to be again re-rated by censorship board in India! |  |

| 8Mbps is the fastest consumer internet connection in India, during this weekend Airtel broadband guys have gone nuts (must be doing some testing) but for the past 2 days I am on 8Mbps connection instead of my regular 2 Mbps plan, so I took this opportunity to test the 8Mbps connection and my reactions are mixed, its fast as promised and if the server supports I was able to reach about 7Mbps (about 850 kb/sec) of speeds which is cool, but the sad part is only a handful of servers supported these speeds. |  |

| Don’t just kill me for saying this but but I seriously don’t hate Vista and I have been using Vista for quite some time from the beta RC builds to the current Home Premium version which is on my primary computer, I also have patched Vista with SP1 RC that was released last week and it did seems to iron out a few bugs it had earlier, so I would recommend you wait for SP1 to release officially if you are planning to upgrade to Vista. |  |

It’s not that I like everything about Vista, Microsoft did a lot of stupid things that still annoys me, like having a Zillion flavors of the OS, why didn’t they just have two versions like they did for XP, or even better just have one like Mac OS, but I guess their Marketing dept things otherwise…… and the insane pricing of Vista Ultimate, I feel having so many versions just confuses the end user and lets not even talk about the Vista Home Basic version, why the hell do you even have that! |

If you are fed up like me taking more marketing / promotional calls on your mobile or landlines than actual calls then look out for the Do not call registry also know as Do not disturb registry and register your telephone numbers and hopefully after 45 days the number of marketing calls should be reduced, the only issue is that, If you have multiple numbers from multiple providers then you would have to register each of them with your provider. |
