Netconnect Broadband Plus Honeymoon period finished?
You must have noticed my earlier review of Netconnect broadband plus and the fantastic speeds that we were getting, over 2 Mbps on an average but during the last couple of weeks I have noticed that the speeds have dropped quite significantly and I am getting speeds that are well below half Mbps around (300 – 500 kbps) .
Well now I am wondering if the great speeds that we were getting on Reliance netconnect
I used to get speeds around 1.5 – 2 Mbps regularly even touching around 3 Mbps for a few minutes when watching streaming videos on a regular basis using Reliance Netconnect plus, but from the last couple of days it’s been less than half Mbps, I cant even watch streaming youtube videos with this connection in the mornings office hours as it’s causing a lot of buffering issues, I do still manage to touch around 2 Mbps but that is during very late hours after mid-night.
It would be great if those who use netconnect + submit the speeds they are getting so that we can have an idea where we are going, you can test the speeds via going to speakeasy.net and test your speeds do mention the time when you are checking the speeds and also your city.

The speeds have come back to normal, but one thing is very strange when I use the netconnect broadband with Windows XP (SP3) I am getting slow speeds in the range of 400-650 kbps, but When I use a different operating system like Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS X (leopard) on my iMac I am getting great speeds around 1.5 – 2 Mbps, do note that XP and Windows 7 are on the same machine via dual-boot so it is not a problem of the machine.
This is very interesting and at the same time confusing to me, it would be great to see how you fare with Netconnect broadband if you are using Windows XP.

Your earlier (May 10th) review was quite useful. Infact had almost decided to go for the connection (location Mumbai).
But after going thru this post; am quite confused.
I also spoke with Tata Photon+ customer care – the problem out there is the Photon+ service is limited to few cities only.
Now the other choice I have is to go for normal USB wireless plans offered by Airtel/Idea (and Reliance/Tata).
Kindly advise – how worse off would I be if take up any of the low speed wireless plans?

The USB speeds via Airtel / Idea it would be EDGE is much much slower than reliance netconnect plus, so I do not recommend them. Tata photon has the problem of limited cities hence again it’s not a viable option if you travel.
The slow speed issues with netconnect + seems to be a temporary glitch as I am getting good speeds for the last 2-3 days, will monitor it for a few days more to get an better idea.

I m too plannin to get either reliance or idea or photon.
M too confused which one to buy.
I earlier had a reliance data card n the speed was good enuf n they gave unltd download in Rs. 1200.
but now no such plans exist.
Also i wont use it too much out of mumbai or pune, so will photon will b a better bet than reliance or should I go for idea?

HI thanks for maintaining fantastic blog.coming to the point i am intrested in taking reliance netconnect.+ but i live in medchal in weekdays i am worried about speed i may get .ln your previous post you mentioned about speed u are getting is 1.5 to 3.5 mbps did you try in outskirts if tried what are the speeds are you getting there when you were in your friends farmhouse as you said in your previous post ….thank you
reliance is worst choice i made .they are fake. their customer support is not good. i insist you to by photon instead of reliance 3.1mbps .

my problem is that i am not getting unintrupted vidio streaming through relance data card on mac bookpro whereas on window based laptop i get good response .Can you help
